Families

When I rise they follow,

At family gatherings Nana watched the table like a hawk,

If a bowl went empty Nana rose,

No one followed,

Wish I know how she control us,

I could stop being followed to the fridge for frozen water,

Really hate Miss Emily jumping on my lap in the bathroom,

Potting is not a community project,

You know,

You Know!

Of course mom would yell after Nana,

‘Mother do you need help?’

Nana always sat opposite grandpa,

Right by the kitchen door,

Nana would yell back,

‘No Marian,I’m fine!’

At our kitchen or dinning room table it was Val jump up and get ?

Dad and grandpa never once rose,

Dinners with dad were bitter,

The food never passed fast enough,

He who Never assisted cooking or getting ready for company,

Drank,

Wanted dessert when he was done,

When he went to his chair my nephews were watching TV,

There dad ate and left,

Dad left when mom,Ellen and I were in tears,

Nice change at Nana’s dad just picked on me till I was in tears crying in the kitchen,

Ever notice families have trends,

Wheny.second eldest nephew was a baby,

Daniel Eric Mathis of Waukon,Iowa,

My Godson though it never matter to him,

My knight in shinning armour was a disappointment,

Those I thought saw loved ones for who we were allowed me no defense against the family bully,

So funny Ellen and I stood for him when his dad treated his little brother as better,

I was three when Ellen Dan’s mom was born,

I was always hearing grow up your not a baby anymore,

For Christ Sake I was three,

Dan was a year and a half older then Craig Ryan Mathis,

Fan was just a baby and his ass wipe of a dad was making an example of Dan,

I wanted children and a wife,

I never would have stopped Children developing their imagination.

I would stop the family. Kitchen crying,

Pity those if us who survive alcoholism are gay children,

In rural America without mentors,

Never find what we search for,
