Bent with time

Yesterday while self checking out at Wally World,

Cedar Rapids,IA,

When I was a kid No one checked them self out without a mirror,

Now Walmart to cheap to employ cashier,

Checking outs done with a scanner,

Place items on a machine like a printer with number facing down,

Then out price of item is rung up,

I had no cash,

Took from my coin collection of quarters,

My mission buy food,

Don’t try to apply for food stamps on line,

You get no food stamps,

You get thirty to fifty phone calls about HUD,

I have a home,

Will be in the ground before I ever live in Iowa’s low rent housing again,

Treat all like lower intellect humans,

Other calls you get are going on disability been on that since 2009,

A retired attorney drove his care through me in a cross walk,

Trying to restart my Rural Ride Share,

Just wanted food assistance,

As I sat in the self checkout line after reviewing my total of thirty dollars,

Out of my old vitamin C plastic recyclable jar I filled handful after handful of my beautiful state quarters,

Promising myself I’ll save them again,

They really are a good investment,

I fed hundreds of dollars in,

Worth more then the thirty dollars,

Then I noticed her stopped,

Round back,

Old as time cashier,

In my little cartie thing at that moment all I wanted to know was her story,

When she said it’s ok we all have to pay to in our coins,

I was no longer so embarrassed that all I had was coin.

Rich America Balderdash!
