A warrior,

Strength and courage,

Walks with her,

Took a small goverment check,

Saw her clear,

Sailing out of goverment low rent,

Poorly made low rent,

Thats not a home,

I have a friend who thinks poverty is taking all free can get,

No self respect in poverty,

No one cares more then those of us who wanted more in life,

Living in our own home,

A strong desire,

My friend Denise doing her own labor,

Fifty-two the check bought her a old trailer,

Past its sell date,

Rotten floor, the has tore out three windows and a door,

So far,

So far,

She told her children,

If I breathe my last,

Remodling ‘my home’,

Know I died with a smile upon my face,

This girls my neighbor,

Fifty-two when she walks down our street in Quasqueton,

I’m as proud of this Iowan as my Great Grand parents who in the eighteen hundeds came over land from Va and PA and settled in the territory,

Not Iowa yet,

That who Iowans are Immigrants,

Mostly, the poor from one country,

My moms family made Iowa strong,

Every Iowan woman walks at Denises side,

Yesterday Alone, she put in her window opposite her new screen sliding door.

Replacing the door and windows with metal clippers and before that jack hammer she removed.

I heard her,

She says she loves it,

Every night off the campground,

Lives in her own home,

She has enough water to drink,

Potty nut not shower,

Shes doing her own plumming,

I have offered my.shower and my washing machine,

She says no,

‘I’m fine!

A true Iowan,

The salt if the earth,

Battling to make what most didn’t want,

A gutted trailer,

My neighbor saw possibilities in,

She had bought a storage container with all supplies to repair she would need.

Like wood,

Windows,door, plastic,

True hall or horde,

A woman’s strength is within,

A Iowan prairie strong,

A true warrior,

Who loves where she is,

The peace and harmony,

Her battle poverty,

My blessing I know her,

She says it’s nothing,

What else would a true.hero say?
